:: Michael Devjataev and "He-111H-22"

In the most improbable image Heinkel 111H-22 has played a role of the savior in destiny of Soviet pilot Michael Devjataeva.

The commander of a wing of 104-th Guards Fighters squadron (9-th Guards Fighters aviation division, 2-nd air army, 1-st Ukrainian front) guards the senior lieutenant Devjataev Michael Petrovich in air fights has brought down 9 enemy planes. In the evening on July, 13th, 1944 has taken off in structure of group of fighters "Aerocobra" P-39 on reflection of a strike of enemy aircraft. In unequal air combat in area of Lvov he has been wounded in the right leg, and his plane was burned. At the last minute he has left a falling fighter with a parachute. With heavy burns it had captured.

In the end of October, 1944, he in a group of 1500 prisoners have sent in camp on island Uzedom where there was a confidential range Penemjunde on which the rocket weapon was tested. As the range was confidential, for prisoners of a concentration camp there was only one exit - through a pipe of a crematorium.

On February, 8th, 1945, Devjataev together with other priconers: Ivan Krivonogovym, Vladimir Sokolovym, Vladimir Nemchenko, Feodor Adamovym, Ivan Olejnikom, Michael Emetsom, Peter Kuterginym, Nikolay Urbanovichem and Dmitry Serdjukovym, having killed the escort, have grasped Не-111Н-22 and having flown through a front line, has made landing to the south of settlement Gollin in an arrangement of an artillery part of 61-st army.

Heinkel 111H-22. All planes of series H, including H-20, had engines Jumo-211, but from the beginning 1944г in manufacture has gone Jumo-213. It has been decided to use on Hе.111. New engines section included two Jumo-213 with a three-high-speed two-level supercharger and an intermediate cooler, take-off power 1750 h.p. and 1320 h.p. at height of 10000 m. the Maximal take-off weight thus has increased up to 16000 kg, and bombing loading up to 3т.
The variant with Jumo-213Е has received designation Hе.111H-21. The variant with new engines began to act on arms in the end of summer 1944 With them the plane without bombs accelerated momentum up to 475 km/h.
Within winter 1943-44г. In Penemjunde tests on start with Hе.111H rockets "Fisiler" Fi.103 (FZG-76) were spent. Plans of continuation of operation "Rumpelkammer" - bombardments of England by rockets Fi.103 now have been connected with Hе.111 as ground launchers have been lost during strikes of allies before opening of the Second front. By this time manufacture Hе.111H quickly slid downwards. Some H-21 already on an assembly line have been altered in carriers Fi.103, having received holders either under left, or under the right wing between the engine and a fuselage. The plane has received designation Hе.111H-22.

Security Committee have not believed, that prisoners of a concentration camp could steal plane. Fugitives have subjected to rigid check, then have sent in penal battalions. In November, 1945 Devjataev has been transferred to the reserve. 12 years nobody trust him. Position has changed, only in the end of 50 years.
On August, 15th, 1957 M.P.Devjataevu had been gave a rank of the Hero of Soviet Union. The Honourable citizen of Republic Mordovia, cities of Kazan (Russia), Volgasta and Cinovichi (Germany). In Torbeevo the museum of the Hero is opened.

Has died on November, 24th, 2002. It is buried on avenue of Heroes of a Arskoe cemetery of Kazan.
